Spike

spike This is Spike... the English Mastiff puppy, the new addition to the Honbu Dojo doggy staff, joining Buster the rescue mongrel and Wee Jock the Border Terrier. At 10 weeks old Spike weighs in over 3 stone and is expected to grow to a massive 14 stone or so!

This should keep Steve and Ann fit walking all 3 dogs on a daily basis and we think that 'Wee Jock' at 20lbs will remain as boss!

WUKO European Championships

news-c1

Eight members of Shi Kon took part in the European Championships in Liege Belgium and managed to come home with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Coach Ian Cuthbert said that the standard was superb and his young squad had performed very well through out.

The men's team had two injuries in the first match and lost two key fighters for the rest of the weekend, but youngsters Jason Marquis and Dan Thackray stepped into the breach and alongside Jenna Shilston, took a bronze in the mixed team event.

Jenna Shilston, Ami Carrigan–Smith and Kerry McCormack won a bronze medal in the ladies team, narrowly losing to Italy in the semi final.

Jenna was unlucky in the individuals, losing to the Italian girl with a dubious contact penalty but Kerry fought brilliantly to take a bronze in the individual Under 60K section.

Rob Ward also fought in the Veterans B section and was unfortunate to lose to the Russian in a close final.

The World Junior (under 21 s) is later in the  year in Italy and Shi Kon look forward to taking a larger squad there.
